Sources and Research Behind The Manual
The Manual draws on clinical research, expert frameworks, and relationship psychology. Here’s what’s behind the content.
Expert frameworks
Alisa Vitti (HHC, Johns Hopkins) coined and trademarked Cycle Syncing and built the most commercially successful framework for cycle awareness. Her concept of the “infradian rhythm” - the 28-day cycle as a counterpart to the 24-hour circadian rhythm - is the most useful single idea for explaining why women don’t operate on the same daily clock as men. Books: WomanCode (2013) and In the FLO (2020).
Dr. Mindy Pelz (DC, functional medicine) produced one of the most-watched pieces of cycle education content for men ever created - a TikTok clip explaining the menstrual cycle hit 1.3 million likes on The Diary of a CEO. Her partner-specific guidance is the most quotable in the field.
Maisie Hill (BSc Acupuncture, 20+ years clinical experience) wrote Period Power (2019), which became an accidental men’s guide - many male partners read it before their female partners did. Her core insight: “Men just want a framework. They want to know what’s going on and what they can do about it. As soon as they have that understanding, it shifts things in the relationship.”
Dr. Sara Gottfried (MD, Harvard Medical School, board-certified OB-GYN) carries the strongest medical credentials in this space. Key quote: “When you understand these hormonal changes, it creates grace in a relationship.”
Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer (Red School) pioneered the inner seasons framework. Their appearance on The Great Man Within - “A Man’s Guide to the Menstrual Cycle” - became that show’s most-downloaded episode ever.

On positioning
This content is designed as an empathy and partnership tool. The goal is not to “decode” your partner or predict her behavior - it’s to give you enough understanding to show up better. Every phase guide ends with the same line because it’s true: Every person is different. Use this as a starting point, then ask her.
The cycle is a starting point for conversation, not a substitute for it.
